FILM 2010: DEAR JOHN

FILM 2010: DEAR JOHN

TRIVIA: On its opening weekend in the United States, it went to number one, becoming the film to finally end the reign of James Cameron's Avatar (2009), which had sat at the top of the box office for seven consecutive weeks.

"Dear John" is military slang for a letter from a girlfriend breaking up with a soldier.

The character of Alan was inspired by writer Nicholas Sparks' son, who is afflicted with Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism.

Amanda Seyfried wrote the song Savannah sings to John. Titled "Little House," the whole song is featured on the movie's soundtrack.

FILM 1879: JUPITER ASCENDING

FILM 1879: JUPITER ASCENDING

TRIVIA: The crew created a rig of six cameras, called the Panocam, which was mounted on a helicopter and covered nearly 180 degrees of the action. During post production, the directors could combine the overlapped filmed footage, essentially creating a camera that could swing around the action independently of the helicopter's actual flying path.

The chase sequence in Chicago was codenamed "Fifty-Two Part" by the film's crew. It was the longest sequence in the script and involving some of the film's most difficult stunts. To complete it, Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum had to film every day for six months.

When arriving at the planet Ores, the Station V from 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) can be seen in the distance amongst the space ships.

The beautiful interior of the Natural History Museum designed by Alfred Waterhouse in London was used in the filming of "intergalactic space palace" scenes, housing film and stunt crew numbering over 400 and 150 cast and extras

Natalie Portman was originally cast as Jupiter Jones, but dropped out. Rooney Mara was considered to replace her, before Mila Kunis was finally cast.

FILM 1740: LOGAN LUCKY

FILM 1740: LOGAN LUCKY

TRIVIA: The film was distributed by cutting out studios, in order to have creative control and make money directly from the film itself. Accordingly, for this atypical distribution, Steven Soderbergh raised the budget by selling off foreign distribution rights, and then sold everything except the movie showing up in a movie theater in order to pay for advertising and prints of the movie (for example, selling post-theatrical rights to the likes of HBO, Netflix, Video-On-Demand, television, and airplanes). By following these two steps, Soderbergh was able to sidestep a Hollywood studio, and had creative control the entire time (for instance, the trailers that dropped earlier this summer were by his design, as was the poster and the entire marketing plan). Also, according to Soderbergh, under this set-up, the box-office bar for success is lower. With nearly everything prepaid, and no hefty distributor fees coming off the top, even a modest fifteen million dollar opening would be a win.

Several NASCAR drivers have cameos in Logan Lucky. Ryan Blaney as the Cake Delivery Boy and Kyle Larson as the Limo Driver. Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch as West Virginia State Troopers. Brad Keselowski and Joey Lagano as the Security Guards. As well as Jeff Gordon and Darrell Waltrip.

Katherine Heigl was originally cast, but dropped out, due to pregnancy. She was replaced by Katie Holmes.

Riley Keough, who plays Mellie, is Elvis Presley's granddaughter--daughter of Elvis & Priscilla's child Lisa Marie.

One of the two 2017 movies featuring Channing Tatum and the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver. The other one being Kingsman: The Golden Circle(2017).

Friday, 29 December 2017

TRIVIA: The film's cast includes five Oscar winners: Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges, Colin Firth, and Elton John.

Third film of 2017 to feature the song 'Take Me Home, Country Roads' by John Denver. The other films to feature the song are Alien: Covenant (2017), and Logan Lucky (2017) (which also stars Channing Tatum). The director, Matthew Vaughn, was shocked when he found out about how popular Denver and his songs had become in 2017 films, with him saying he "...wrote John Denver into the script two and a half years ago thinking 'No one really talks about John Denver anymore.'"

This marks the third time that actor Bruce Greenwood has played the United States President. He previously played President John F. Kennedy in Thirteen Days (2000) and a fictitious U.S. President in National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007). Greenwood can never actually run for President in real life because he was born in Canada.

The robot dogs, Bennie and Jet, are a reference to Elton John's song "Bennie and the Jets."

Mark Strong, who plays Merlin, provides the voice-over for Vue Cinemas in the UK and Ireland with regards to cinema etiquette. Exclusively for "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" screenings, he delivers the etiquette message in character as Merlin, reminding audiences to switch off their phones in his own unique style.

On the Statesmans' plane, a bottle of Born and Bred Vodka can be seen on the bar. Channing Tatum is the owner of this vodka brand.

First film that Colin Firth and Jeff Bridges have appeared in together. They have twice competed with each other for the Best Actor Academy Award. In 2009, Bridges won for Crazy Heart (2009), while Firth was nominated for A Single Man (2009). In 2010, Firth won for The King's Speech (2010), while Bridges was nominated for True Grit (2010).

The original subtitle was The Golden Triangle, named after the area that borders Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. However, when the film was test screened three times, the filmmakers found out that no one in the test audience had heard of the area's geography nor the history with that title. It was then decided to change the word Triangle to Circle.

FILM 1411: MAGIC MIKE

TRIVIA: In the scene where Dallas (Matthew McConaughey) finally strips, there is a point where he rolls away from all of the women holding his crotch. This is because the extras got a little bit too excited and accidentally ripped his g-string. Instead of stopping the dance, he just incorporated it in.

Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer allegedly did not get along on set.

The film is loosely based on Channing Tatum's experiences as a male exotic dancer before hitting it big as a movie star.

The character of Tarzan, portrayed by Kevin Nash, wears a knee brace during his routine and goes with the idea that stripping is all his character knows and is doing it past his prime. This wasn't in the script but came about when Nash showed up on set with the brace on and explained that he wouldn't be able to do the routine properly unless he wore it. Kevin Nash is a professional wrestler with a history of knee problems.
