TRIVIA: This film is intended to be the first installment in a possible Universal Monsters shared universe, also known as "Dark Universe."

The film's tagline, "Welcome to a new world of gods and monsters," is a quote from Bride of Frankenstein (1935), which was also produced by Universal and will be the next installment in the Dark Universe franchise.

The zero gravity scene took sixty-four takes and was shot for two days in a falling plane. Reportedly, a lot of the crew got nauseous during the scene and vomited, except for the main stars, Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis, who were really proud of the stunt.

When Jake Johnson was offered his part in the movie, he loved the idea and the opportunity to work with Tom Cruise, knowing that Cruise does most of his own stunts. He signed on immediately, but when he read the full script and learned what kind of dangerous actions were expected of him, he admitted to getting cold feet. However, Cruise allowed Johnson access to his private facilities for a rigorous 4.5 month training course, making him well prepared for all the stunts he was required to do.

Director Alex Kurtzman stated that there is no post credits scene because "That's Marvel's domain."

Due to the film's lukewarm reception and box office, Universal's proposed Dark Universe franchise was shelved indefinitely.

The Mummy had a relatively disappointing box office run, grossing just over $400m worldwide. Studio sources have said that Tom Cruise exerted too much control on the set, and that his input into editing and marketing greatly changed the pace and style of the movie.

When Ahmanet is mummified and is put the sarcophagus, the lid was too close to Sofia Boutella's face. And it hit her right in the nose, and all the bandages around her head were soaked with blood. After the bloody bandages were removed, a second take was done, only this time, the lid was further away from her face.

TRIVIA: David Duchovny turned down a role in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) to appear in this movie.

Initially written as a serious science-fiction thriller, Ivan Reitman hired David Diamond and David Weissman to re-write the project as a comedy. The original writer, Don Jakoby, actually enjoyed the changes so much, he continued working on the film alongside the other writers.

Shot in December, DreamWorks asked the locals to delay putting up their Christmas decorations. Following the shoot, DreamWorks paid the city employees overtime to light up the town in time for Christmas.

The placement of the element selenium in Head and Shoulders shampoo is technically correct. Though regular Head and Shoulders shampoo does not have any of the element, Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment Shampoo actually does consist of approximately 1% selenium sulfide.

In certain point Orlando Jones's character tells David Duchovny to call the government, but he answers "No government, I know those guys". This is a reference to his character in The X Files.

TRIVIA: Tim Burton was originally going to produce the film in 1998, and was attached to it. However, the project fell through.

The only "monster" characters in the film with spoken lines (Slappy the ventriloquist dummy and the invisible boy) are both voiced by Jack Black.

During the 1990s, George A. Romero was hired to adapt the book series into a single film and even finished a draft.

This is not the only R.L. Stine related project for Dylan Minnette and Ryan Lee; they've both appeared on the TV series, R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour (2010).

FILM 1169: NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND

TRIVIA: Hayao Miyazaki was so upset by the original international cut version that he sent a samurai sword to the Executive at Disney with a simple note which read: "No cuts."

Nausicaä is the name of a character in Homer's Odyssey.

The military planes invading the Valley have yellow wingtip undersides. Hitler's Luftwaffe had similar yellow identification markings during German invasions of surrounding countries.

Ohmu means "king of the insects" in Japanese. It is short for "O-mushi" ("big/great insect").

While many consider this to be a Studio Ghibli film, it was actually created before the studio was properly founded. The first movie produced by Studio Ghibli was "Castle in the Sky."

Film 1026: Monsters University

Trivia: The Pizza Planet truck, first featured in Toy Story can be seen parked by the left of the ROR fraternity house during the party. This truck is present in all Pixar feature films.

Professor Knight's lecture hall is room A113, a reference to a room at CalArts where animation classes are taught. All Pixar films have a reference to "A113".

There is a line in the first Monsters, Inc. where Mike says that Sully has been jealous of his looks since the fourth grade. Since this movie was going to show Mike and Sully meeting in college, it obviously contradicts that line. Director Dan Scanlon admitted that there was some conflict behind that and even had one treatment show Sully and Mike meeting in the fourth grade then skipping ahead to their university years. Pete Docter (director of the first Monsters, Inc.) and John Lasseter personally told Scanlon that they loved that he was honoring that one line said in the movie, but he "...had to do what was best for the story". As a result, the line was put aside and Sully and Mike would be shown meeting in university. As a joke, Scanlon said that Mikes line in the first movie is "an old monster expression."

The first prequel to a Pixar film.

Despite being offered the role of Dean Hardscrabble outright, Helen Mirren requested that she audition for the role anyway to ensure that the film's makers were satisfied with her performance.

John Ratzenberger makes his traditional Pixar film appearance, reprising his role as Yeti (a.k.a. The Abonimable Snowman) from Monsters, Inc.. Yeti's job in the Monsters, Inc. mailroom is a nod to John's famous role as postman Cliff Clavin in Cheers. Yeti warns Mike and Sully that tampering with the mail is punishable by exile to the human world, foreshadowing his exile in Monsters, Inc.

Pixar's "Luxo Jr." ball appears as a drawing on the stone wall at the beginning of the first Scare Games task.

Film 837: Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark

Trivia: The runes carved into the stone over the furnace that the creatures live down spells out "Be Afraid" in Elder Futhark.

Appropriately set in Providence, RI as that was the home of H.P. Lovecraft who wrote the story "The Rats in the Walls" which apparently inspired this film. Though the short story was set in England not Rhode Island.
