TRIVIA: Before filming began, Nicole Kidman took lessons from the owner of the Storm Vogel on how to operate the ship. During the storm sequences near the end of the film, she is actually piloting the yacht.

For the scene where Hughie rips off Rae's shorts, Billy Zane really did rip off Nicole Kidman's shorts through his own sheer strength without any alterations made to the shorts to make them easier to rip.

Sam Neill met his wife, Noriko Watanabe, in the making of this film.

TRIVIA: Director Adrian Lyne used emotionally manipulative tactics on Kim Basinger during the shooting to elicit the performance he wanted from the somewhat new actress, which Basinger later criticized harshly. For example, Lyne did not allow Mickey Rourke and Basinger to talk to each other off-set. The two were kept isolated from each other and Lyne would tell Basinger rumors about how Rourke intended to make her like or dislike him so that she would carry that attitude into the scene. Lyne would also offer Rourke performance notes, but Basinger none, in order to unnerve her. In a very unusual and expensive move along these lines, Lyne shot the film sequentially, so that Basinger's actual emotional breakdown over time would be effectively translated to the screen.

Body doubles were used for Elizabeth (Kim Basinger) throughout the movie.

Kim Basinger owns 14 hours of deleted scenes that MGM thought were very psychologically damaging to people. The footage has never been made available for public viewing, even in the Director's Cut DVD edition.

Elizabeth wears white or colorful clothing except when she is with John, when she wears black or grey. See also Dial M for Murder (1954).

TRIVIA: About the script and the way it was performed, Duplass stated, "The way this worked, there (was) about a 50-page document that was the entire movie - the scene beats, everything, locations - except for the actual dialogue in the film. And most of the dialogue you see in the film is improvised. Although in certain scenes, where we have effects and things like that, Justin our writer [Justin Lader] would write out a version of that scene the night before, to give us a good guide, so we could have something to stick to." The director Charlie McDowell's girlfriend, Rooney Mara was the costume designer. She goes by a pseudonym on the movie because they didn't want to credit Rooney Mara, costume designer. She's Bree Daniel on the credits.

Ted Danson, playing the therapist, is director Charlie McDowell's stepfather. McDowell's mother Mary Steenburgen is also featured doing voice work.

When Ethan is browsing the computer late in the film, he discovers a number of folders, each bearing the names of a couple who have visited the retreat. One of them is "Ted & Mary," a reference to husband & wife (and relatives of the director) Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen.

FILM 1523: ANNABELLE

TRIVIA: The movie portrays the Annabelle doll as a porcelain doll, but the real Annabelle doll is a large "Raggedy Ann" doll. The Warrens had a special case built for Annabelle inside their Occult Museum, where she resides to this day.

The baby mobile hanging over the crib plays the same tune as the music box from The Conjuring.

The real Annabelle doll was given to Donna (a college student at the time) by her mother in 1970. Her and her roommate Angie noticed that the doll would move subtlety, then within a few weeks became fully mobile moving from one room to another while they were gone.

Ellen DeGeneres lived in the apartment used in the movie. While promoting Annabelle (2014) in her show (Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show: Shia LaBeouf/Gina Rodriguez/Padma Lakshmi/Guest DJ Meghan Trainor (2014)), she explained that: "The apartment in the movie was my first apartment that I moved to in L.A. That was the building I lived in; where they shot the movie. I was watching it going: 'That looks familiar' and it was my building. It was scary back then too."

A 1963 episode of "The Twilight Zone" called "Living Doll" involves a talking doll given to a young girl by her mother. The doll's innocent vocabulary soon takes a sinister tone, especially towards the girl's cruel stepfather. The girl's mother is named Annabelle.

The doll prop used for Annabelle is the same one from the 2013 film 'The Conjuring'.

The elevator scene was directed by James Wan.

Annabelle (2014) carries references to the cult classic Rosemary's Baby (1968) starring Mia Farrow as Rosemary and John Cassavetes as Guy, a young couple moving into a new building. The leading characters in Annabelle (2014) are Mia and John. They name their newborn daughter Leah; this is the name of one of the neighbors Rosemary and Guy meet in their new building. Both films also incorporate a dramatic scene involving an elevator. Annabelle (2014) is set in 1969, Rosemary's Baby (1968) in 1966. In 1969 actress Sharon Tate was murdered by the Manson Family. She was eight months pregnant at the time. Sharon Tate was married to director Roman Polanski who directed Rosemary's Baby (1968).

Trivia: The cast were very excited to be working on some of the old The Wizard of Oz sets.

The snuff films were all shot on the first day of shooting.

Sarah Jessica Parker was originally selected for the film, but dropped out and was replaced by Kate Beckinsale.

Film 924: The Odd Couple

Trivia: Billy Wilder was going to direct and write the screenplay at one point.

Walter Matthau, who played Oscar in both the original Broadway play and the movie, asked the play's author, Neil Simon, if he could play Felix instead. This was because Matthau thought Oscar's personality was too similar to his own and the role would be too easy; whereas playing the persnickety Felix would be a real acting challenge. Simon replied, "Walter, go and be an actor in somebody else's play. Please be Oscar in mine." Matthau finally agreed to it.

Monica Evans and Carole Shelley also reprise their roles in Disney's The AristoCats as a pair of English geese on a walking tour of France.
