FILM 1687: CIRCLE

TRIVIA: Writers/Directors, Aaron Hann and Mario Miscione, previously worked together on the award winning web series The Vault (2011). A few of the actors from the series can also be seen in Circle.

Circle was filmed in Los Angeles in just over 10 days, shooting at the unusually fast rate of 11-13 pages a day.

FILM 1230: ODD THOMAS

TRIVIA: In the beginning of the film, a life-size cardboard standee of Elvis Presley can be seen in the main character's apartment. In the novel, Elvis is actually one of the friendlier "spirits" that interacts with Odd Thomas.

Another scene that was cut involved Odd and Stormy's matching birth marks, an important reference from the book.

FILM 1195: HIGH NOON

TRIVIA: Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly had an affair that lasted for the duration of filming.

Its loss in the Best Picture category to the much-derided The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), by Cecil B. DeMille, is usually cited as one of the biggest upsets in the history of the Academy Awards. This loss is often seen as an effort to satisfy Senator Joseph McCarthy, as DeMille was one of his biggest supporters.

Director Fred Zinnemann said that the black smoke billowing from the train is a sign that the brakes were failing. He and the cameraman didn't know it at the time, and barely got out of the way. The camera tripod snagged itself on the track and fell over, smashing the camera, but the film survived and is in the movie.

This film was intended as an allegory in Hollywood for the failure of Hollywood people to stand up to the House Un-American Activities Committee during the Sen. Joseph McCarthy Red-baiting era.

Film 1083: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Trivia: In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jennifer Lawrence said that she, Josh Hutcherson, and Sam Claflin were very clumsy, saying Claflin fell at least once in every scene they filmed. Claflin agreed and said they could fill an entire gag reel with just him falling over.

All three of the songs Ed Sheeran submitted for the film's soundtrack were turned down.

Most of the dresses Elizabeth Banks wears in this movie are created by Sarah Burton for the famous Alexander McQueen brand.

After Gary Ross declined to return to direct the movie, Alfonso Cuarón, David Cronenberg, Bennett Miller, Tomas Alfredson, Cary Fukunaga, Duncan Jones and Joe Cornish were considered to replace him. In the end, the job was offered to Francis Lawrence.

Zoe Aggeliki and Mia Wasikowska were considered for the role of Johanna Mason before Jena Malone was cast.

Film 847: Predators

Trivia: Robert Rodriguez was originally thought to be attached as director, however within days of this rumor coming out he confirmed he would only write and produce the film.

Danny Trejo's character is named Cuchillo. "Cuchillo" is Spanish for "knife". Many of Trejo's characters in Robert Rodriguez movies have been named after knives or sharp instruments: Machete in Spy Kids, Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams, and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over; Razor Charlie and Razor Eddie in From Dusk Till Dawn, From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money, and From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter, Navajas (Spanish for "blades") in Desperado, and he also plays another character called Machete in Machete, a feature length version based on a fake trailer featured in the Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino collaboration Grindhouse.

Nimród Antal specifically chose Adrien Brody for the main protagonist: "It was a challenge in finding a balance. When we cast Adrien, there were a lot of people going, What? But at the same time, if we cast a Vin Diesel in that role or anyone who is Arnold-esque, we would have been attacked for doing that. So we decided early on to go in a very different direction as far as the casting process, but it turned out fantastic." He also felt the soldiers should be portrayed as wiry tough guys, not burly men like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

According to Robert Rodriguez, the title of "Predators" serves as a double-entendre, describing the alien hunters as well as the ensemble human characters they target: "They could very well kill each other off even if there were no Predators!"

Stans' character is a death row inmate in California's San Quentin Correctional Facility. All death row inmates can receive a pardon or stay of execution by the state's governor. At the time this film was made (and presumably the time the movie takes place), California's governor was Arnold Schwarzenegger, the lead star of the original Predator film.

Alice Braga read a sniper manual in preparation for her role and carried a fourteen pound sniper rifle around with her during shooting.

Hanzo is missing two fingers on his left hand. The reason that the Yakuza traditionally cut their fingers starting from the left pinkie is that these fingers have a vital role in controlling a Japanese sword, and their loss would significantly impair a duelist. Hanzo must be a formidable swordsman to be able fight in close combat as he did despite the loss of his fingers.
