FILM 1384: GERHARD RICHTER – PAINTING

A documentary on the German artist that includes glimpses at his studio, which has not been seen in decades.

Sunday, 22 March 2015

I woke up quite early today, which is unusual for me on a Sunday.  I had an urge to paint.  Unfortunately I couldn’t find any white spirit so I had to wait until everyone got up to paint using oils.  I continued drawing my quotes and couldn’t wait to get started on my paint.  I wanted to try some abstract pieces, which I’ve not really done before, I’m not sure about them but I did enjoy making them.  (While watching some old episodes of Forensic Files (don’t judge me.) I thought while I was all messy and covered in paint I might as well do some marbling. I used one of my canvases and it came out better than expected.  I need new marble ink – if anyone can recommend anywhere I can get some I would really appreciate it.  I would really like some gold or silver!

… OF THE DAY
A few sketches of some furniture that David Lynch personally made for the film Lost Highway.

I am a big Lynch fan, I am always fascinated by his way of thinking and the way he creates things that no one else could even dream of thinking of.  His capacity for problem solving and his span of creativity leave me in awe.

I watched a documentary today on YouTube which mostly focused around the filming of Lost Highway but also looked at Lynch’s paintings and photographic art as well as early short films that I had never seen before.  I recommend it to anyone not only interested in David Lynch but also in film-making or set design or art in general.  Here’s a link for you…
