FILM 2022: AMERICAN ANIMALS

FILM 2022: AMERICAN ANIMALS

TRIVIA: This is a true story about college students who stole a priceless book from Transylvania University, which is located in Lexington, Kentucky. Though the movie was filmed in North Carolina.

During filming the actors were not allowed to meet their real life counterparts because the director feared they would sympathise and/or play them in a certain light.

The movie was filmed in the Davidson College Library during the week of Spring Break of 2017. Through the chaos of equipment, actors, extras, and all the technical people it takes to make a movie, the library staff continued to perform their jobs. Some of the staff were asked to submit their head shots to be cast in the film which resulted in one person being asked to be in the film. However, it was inconvenient for staff to take the time away from their jobs to be in the film, so, therefore, no staff person was in the film. But, if you look closely in the shots filmed in the library, there are offices with their blinds down. Staff are behind those blinds working diligently making sure the library still functioned.

John Waters named this film second among his top ten favorite films released in 2018.

Darren Keith revealed Warren asked him for help with the heist as well but he denied the offer in hopes of pursuing his acting career.

INSPIRATION: AMAZING SPACES

Look at this amazing space! It’s the world’s Largest Monastery Library in  Admont Abbey a Benedictine monastery in Austria. Reminds me of a library of my dreams or something out of Beauty and the Beast.

INSPIRATION: INTERIORS

If this was my library space I’d definitely have a bit more shelf space but I love how light this room is and I love the ochre/whiskey coloured seating…

BOOK 182: SEX CRIMINALS, VOL. 1: ONE WEIRD TRICK: MATT FRACTION & CHIP ZDARSKY

BOOK 182: SEX CRIMINALS, VOL. 1: ONE WEIRD TRICK: MATT FRACTION & CHIP ZDARSKY

Sex Criminals is an ongoing, monthly comic book published by American company Image Comics. It is written by Matt Fraction and illustrated by Chip Zdarsky. The first issue was published September 25, 2013 and the series received positive reviews.

Sex Criminals was nominated for two Eisner Awards in 2014 including Best Continuing Series and won Best New Series. On February 25, 2015, it was announced that Matt Fraction made a deal with Universal TV to turn Sex Criminals into a television show.

Critical reception

Time honored Sex Criminals as the #1 comic series/graphic novel of 2013.

IGN tagged the work as "amazing", and said that the story is "so addictive, you'll find yourself staring at the last page in horror when you realize you'll have to wait another month to find out what happens next".

Paste called the first issue "splendid", with "an immediately likable character", specifying that although one "wouldn’t trust most comic creators to turn a sexual awakening into compelling pulp fiction (...) Fraction and Zdarsky pull it off masterfully.

WhatCulture.com called Sex Criminals a "masterpiece", with "an adorable cast, virtuoso writing and stunning art,", and Sciencefiction.com called it "entertaining", "witty", and "very fun", while emphasizing that the sexual content is "tastefully presented."

The first compilation, Sex Criminals: One Weird Trick, was nominated for the 2015 Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story.

FILM 1545: WINGS OF DESIRE

TRIVIA: In the closing titles it says: "Dedicated to all the former angels, but especially to Yasujiro, François and Andrej." That refers to Yasujiro Ozu, François Truffaut and Andrej Tarkovsky.

All of the black & white sequences were shot through a one-of-a-kind filter made from a stocking that belonged to cinematographer Henri Alekan's grandmother.

Filming the actual Berlin Wall was prohibited, so a replica of the wall twice had to be built close to the original. The first fake wall warped in the rain because the contractor cheated the producers and built it from wood.

This movie was the basis for the American City of Angels (1998) movie with Meg Ryan and Nicolas Cage.

The photograph on the cover of the book that the old man opens in the library is "Young farmers" taken by August Sander.

FILM 1472: THE BOOK THIEF

TRIVIA: One of the books that Liesel read to Max when he was sick is actually the book The Book Thief itself, containing the sentence: "what came to her then was the dustiness of the floor, the feeling that her clothes were more next to her than on her, and the sudden realisation that this would all be for nothing".

When first arriving at the school, a large poster with many faces can be seen. This is a replica of an accurate period piece, a poster depicting the "ideal" Aryan phenotypes according to the region. Painted by two artists with racial obsession, these posters were placed in every school, and students are forced to memorize them.

The Gravedigger's Handbook, The Dog Named Faust, The Lighthouse, The Shoulder Shrug, The Whistler, The Mud Men, The Standover Man, The Dream Carrier, A Song in the Dark, Under the Cherry Tree, The Tenth Lieutenant, The Last Human Stranger and The Rules of Tommy Hoffman were books Liesel got her hands on in the novel, but they were not real books; Markus Zusak made them up because he liked the sound of the titles and each one referred to problems that Hitler's oppressive tactics caused.
