FILM 1955: BORDER

FILM 1955: BORDER

TRIVIA: Actress Aubrey Plaza, involved in no way with the film, was such a fan of it that the filmmakers offered to allow her to host a screening. She arranged this at a theater in Los Angeles and invited 60 people to attend. Ten minutes before it was to begin she was informed that the film had not arrived in the theater. She went into the lobby to announce this, but mid-announcement was told the film had arrived. Everyone was seated and then forty minutes went by. She asked friends Fred Armisen and Nick Kroll, who were in the audience, to go on stage and entertain everyone. Armisen pretended to be the film's director while Kroll took questions from the audience. This lasted another twenty minutes. Ultimately the theater management said the film never arrived, but offered to show the crowd the film Suspiria instead. Then, an hour into showing Suspiria, they cut the film off abruptly and began to play Border, which had finally arrived. Plaza relayed this story on The Conan O'Brien Show.

Official submission of Sweden for the 'Best Foreign Language Film' category of the 91st Academy Awards in 2019.

FILM 1851: THE VILLAGE

FILM 1851: THE VILLAGE

TRIVIA: Joaquin Phoenix made a wooden walking stick for Bryce Dallas Howard during the 19th-century preparation the actors participated in before the film. He engraved the name of her character, Ivy, on the walking stick.

Director M. Night Shyamalan put the entire cast through a 19th century "boot camp" in order for them to get a good feel for the time period.

The director cast Bryce Dallas Howard without an audition after seeing her perform on stage.

Bryce Dallas Howard and Judy Greer, who played sisters Ivy and Kitty, would later play sisters again in Jurassic World (2015).

The role of Lucius Hunt was written for Joaquin Phoenix.

Kirsten Dunst was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard after dropping out to star in Elizabethtown (2005). Dunst and Howard later appeared together in Spider-Man 3 (2007).

The film is included on the film critic Roger Ebert's "Most Hated" list.

Second collaboration between Joaquin Phoenix, Cherry Jones, and M. Night Shyamalan after previously working together on Signs (2002).

FILM 1620: THE WITCH

TRIVIA: According to cinematographer Jarin Blaschke, the film was shot mostly with available and natural light.

The premise is based on America's first witch hysteria in colonial New England, set 62 years before the infamous "Salem Witch Trials" which occurred in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

There were more scenes planned to involve Black Phillip, but because he wasn't as well trained as planned, the ideas had to be scratched.

Most of the film's dialogue and story were based on writings from the time.

Although the film's plot was intended to be taken literally, director Robert Eggers has spoken about a few small hints he and the filmmakers left throughout the film that one might interpret as reasoning behind the events, beyond the obvious supernatural. For example, the rot on the corn is ergot - a hallucinogenic fungus.

The Satanic Temple has endorsed this movie and hosted several screenings of the film. Their spokesperson, Jex Blackmore, addressed the film as "an impressive presentation of Satanic insight that will inform contemporary discussion of religious experience."

The film takes place in 1630.

FILM 1586: TROLL HUNTER

TRIVIA: The film contains several references to old Scandinavian folklore. For example, the goats on a bridge and a troll under it are a reference to the "Three Billy Goats Gruff". At one point Thomas mentions an eating competition, a reference to the story "Askeladden".

The movie contains several characters played by Norwegian comedians: Otto Jespersen (the troll hunter), Knut Nærum (the power plant supervisor), Robert Stoltenberg (the Polish bear supplier), and Hans Morten Hansen (Finn, the troll hunter's boss) are all high profile comedians.

FILM 1495: THE LOBSTER

TRIVIA: The production worked almost entirely with natural light and without make-up. Lighting was only used for some night scenes.

Mainly filmed in and around the Parknasilla Hotel in Sneem, County Kerry in Ireland.

The song that David and the Short-sighted woman synchronize their CD players with and dance to in the woods, is "Where The Wild Roses Grow" by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds featuring Kylie Minogue.

Jason Clarke was cast in the lead role but he dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.

Film 1014: Wrong Turn

Trivia: When the four are running from the cabin after awakening the mountain men, Desmond Harrington broke his right ankle after landing on the opposite side of a log. This made it very difficult to shoot some of the scenes after his left leg is "shot" and he has to limp on his right leg.

Eliza Dushku did a lot of her own stunts for the movie.

Emmanuelle Chriqui dislocated her shoulder performing her fall through the trees. You can hear her shoulder pop on the production track in the theatrical sound mix.

As written in the original script, the characters were in their late 20s. However, they were made younger in order for the film to appeal to younger audiences.
