TRIVIA: This was George A. Romero's first studio film. However, the studio he was working with, Orion Pictures, had re-cut the film against Romero's wishes which contributed to the box office failure of the film. Afterwards, Romero went back to independent filmmaking until The Dark Half (1993) (also from Orion).

This was the first film role for Stephen Root, then a stage actor. According to Root, he had been instructed by his agent not to let the casting directors know that he was inexperienced with film as an actor. Root's official debut was Crocodile Dundee II (1988), which had been released in theaters a month before this film, despite being shot a month after it.

FILM 1380: THE FALL

TRIVIA: The film was shot in 28 countries for four years. According to the director no stages were ever used, only existing locations.

According to his Facebook profile, Peter Jackson decided to cast Lee Pace as King Thranduil in the 'Hobbit' trilogy, after seeing his performance in this movie.

Darwin's monkey "Wallace" is a reference to the naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace who independently developed the idea of natural selection. Darwin and Wallace presented the theory together, but due to the publication of "On the Origin of Species" Darwin usually gets sole credit for the theory. The scene on Butterfly Island when Darwin closes Wallace in the sack and says " we.... I have an idea" alludes to him taking sole credit for ideas that were not completely his own.

The cinematic poster for this movie is based on the Salvador Dali painting, "1935_03_Face of Mae West Which May Be Used as an Apartment", circa 1935.

One of the significant plot developments - Alexandria's misinterpreting the letter E as the number 3 in a note written by Roy - was derived from an accidental misreading by the 6 year old actress during filming, which the director then realized he could adapt into a clever twist in the story.

The magic word "Googly" that Alexandria repeats in the movie is also the name of the production company.

Film 1075: Outbreak

Trivia: Dustin Hoffman's role of Sam Daniels was originally intended for Harrison Ford. Coincidentally, Harrison Ford's character in Blade Runner (1982) was written with Dustin Hoffman in mind.

In the film, it is said that "Motaba" was more deadly than the "Ebola" virus. Then they show a picture of the "Motaba" virus. The virus shown in the photograph, is a strain of Ebola.

Betsy, the white-headed capuchin Monkey, also appears in the sitcom Friends (1994) as Marcel, Ross' pet. The monkey's prior role in Outbreak was spoofed by a poster showing Marcel as the star in the fictional movie "Outbreak 2: The Virus Takes Manhattan". Both the movie and the TV series are Warner Brothers productions.

When investigating the village in Zaire several of the huts are burned down. This is the traditional tribal method for controlling the spread of an infection in many parts of the world. Food and water are left outside the entrance to the dwelling and the occupants cannot leave. If several days (usually 3 or 4) of these supplies are not used then the dwelling is burned down to stop the infection from spreading.
