FILM 2020: DETECTIVE PIKACHU

FILM 2020: DETECTIVE PIKACHU

TRIVIA: Tim mentions a gangster film on TV is an "old detective movie." The clip being shown is actually "Angels With Filthy Souls", a movie-within-a-movie which was featured in the original Home Alone (1990).

The realistic style of the Pokémon were based on the artwork by RJ Palmer. The movie's production designer discovered him while he was looking for realistic Pokémon designs on the internet, and he was so impressed by Palmer's artwork that he gave him a job as the concept artist for the movie.

The day before the film's theatrical release, the entire movie was "leaked" onto YouTube. In reality, clicking this video will play a minute of the film, before cutting to a loop of Pikachu dancing for an hour and forty five minutes.

Despite having six distinctive cries (according to both sound bites and Build a Bear) the voice for Psyduck is unlisted and unnamed.

The first movie based on a video game to have a fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, at 64%.

A petition was made to have Danny DeVito voice Pikachu.

At one point Pikachu looks to ensure that Psyduck stays calm by repeating the term "Serenity Now" a number of times. "Serenity Now" is a famous catchphrase from Seinfeld Season 9 Episode 3

It was The Pokémon Company's idea to have Ryme City ban battling and using Pokéballs, wishing to show a different and "more elevated" relationship between Pokémon and people. They were also very protective of Ash Ketchum and forbade any reference to him from being made. Going as far as even forbidding Tim from wearing a cap.

Ryme City is very obviously London, complete with distinctive Routemaster buses and cars driving on the left-hand side of the road (and Pret-A-Mangers). Other landmarks that prominently appear include the Gherkin and King's Cross Station as Tahnti Station.

In a world full of Pokémon with different kinds of powers, of course people are going to put that to use. For example, in the night market, one man uses a Charmander's flame tail to flambe the food in the wok, and the laboratory people are using Greninjas as hitmen to take Detective Pikachu and Tim down. Demonstrated more in earlier scenes, a Machamp is directing traffic, a squad of Squirtles help put out a fire, the police force has a lot of dog-type Pokémon, and a Braviary is flying around the city to deliver a construction worker on a crane his lunch. It also makes sense for certain Pokémon types to have their own occupations, like Octillery cutting up sushi and Loudreds being used as loud speakers in the round house.

FILM 1782: DEADPOOL 2

FILM 1782: DEADPOOL 2

TRIVIA: The sequel was announced 3 days before the release of Deadpool (2016).

Ryan Reynolds personally offered Rob Delaney the role of Peter after seeing him in Catastrophe (2015).

In one scene, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) refers to Cable (Josh Brolin) as One Eyed Willy; 'bring it on, One Eyed Willy'. One Eyed Willy was the pirate character in The Goonies (1985) starring Josh Brolin.

It was announced in October 2016 that Tim Miller would not be returning as director for this sequel. He decided not to return due to creative differences with lead actor Ryan Reynolds during pre-production. Miller later stated that he left the sequel because he "didn't want to make some stylized movie that was 3 times the budget", and wished to create the same kind of film that made the first one a success.

Brad Pitt met with the director to discuss the part of Cable, but couldn't commit due to scheduling conflicts.

In the trailer, Deadpool remarks about the effects on Cable's arm not being done, saying it's "not as difficult as removing a mustache." This is a reference to how Justice League(2017) had to remove Henry Cavill's moustache for re-shoots.

FILM 1678: LIFE

TRIVIA: Actress Rebecca Ferguson who plays Dr. Miranda North, British, Quarantine Officer, originally turned down the role. She thought she would not live up to standards. She was nervous and scared. She told it to the producer and was advised to talk with the director of the movie Daniel Espinosa. His philosophy and ideas for the film impressed her and decided to change her decision and eventually take part in the movie.

Second film to be written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and feature Ryan Reynolds. The first was Deadpool (2016)

FILM 1514: THE PROPOSAL

TRIVIA: Sandra Bullock plays a Canadian who wants to marry her assistant (Ryan Reynolds) in order to keep her Visa status in the U.S. and avoid deportation to Canada. In real life, Reynolds is from Canada and Bullock is American.

Betty White almost turned down her role in the film because filming would require her to spend ten weeks away from her golden retriever.

Julia Roberts was the first choice to play Margaret, but reportedly refused to take a pay cut, so Sandra Bullock took over the role.

FILM 1471: DEADPOOL

TRIVIA: A 3 minute test reel was shot in January 2012 in an attempt to convince the heads of the studio to move forward with the movie. On August 1st 2014, the footage was released to the public, and based on the overwhelmingly positive response from fans, the film finally began production. The footage was so popular that part of it was recreated for the actual film.

Ryan Reynolds has said that Deadpool will be the last comic book character he will ever portray. However, he is open to Deadpool sequels and/or cameos.

In the trailer and in the film, Wade Wilson requests, "Don't make the super suit green- or animated!" This is a reference to Ryan Reynolds' previous role as the DC superhero Green Lantern (2011) in which, as stated, the green suit was a special effect rather than an actual costume for Reynolds to put on. This is also a crude reference to that film's director Martin Campbell whom he didnt get on with.

In an interview, writer Rhett Reese stated that Negasonic Teenage Warhead wasn't always intended to be in the film. Other X-men such as Cannonball were considered, but they eventually used Negasonic Teenage Warhead because they "liked her name better".

Throughout the film Deadpool accuses the studio of not having enough money to pay for several elements in the movie. In fact, Fox Studios cut seven million dollars out of the film's budget at the last minute, necessitating several rewrites. Items cut from the film included a motorcycle chase between Wade and Francis, the addition of more named villains, and several action sequences. In the latter instance, the fights were scaled down by having Deadpool forget to bring his ammo and gun bags.

FILM 1447: THE VOICES

TRIVIA: Ryan Reynolds modeled the voice of the cat after a Scottish friend he has known for over twenty years.

Director Marjane Satrapi was initially going to hire voice actors for the animals' voices, however Ryan Reynolds convinced her that he should do them as they are voices that his character hears in his head, and therefore should be different variations of his voice. He convinced her by sending her recordings of his voice, tailored specifically for each of the animals.

The screenplay for this film was featured in the 2009 Blacklist; a list of the "most liked" unmade scripts of the year.
